Living in the country has brought a new connection to natural
surroundings. Tending large areas of gardens and trees and
other flora has created a new awareness of seasonal changes,
an amazement of natural cycles, and a rebirth of appreciation
of the inherent beauty of our surroundings, and the whole
natural process.
Investing mind and body, I become part of the process; sometimes
the agent of change, sometimes that which is changed. This
give and take, observation and action, affixes in my mind
the images of my natural surroundings. These images become
metaphors for my feelings for this place.
As a studio photographer of art objects, I have long worked
to control lighting, composition, texture, and depth to
produce images that do justice to the art. Through this
series, using these techniques, I have tried to blend natural
art with the controlled environment of the studio to produce
images that communicate my amazement of the beauty of these
natural objects, the wonder of the process that produces
and reproduces them, and their preciousness to me as something
labored for, or simply enjoyed as a gift.
